FREE FIELD TRIP OPPORTUNITY – JANUARY 26, 2018
ANNUAL GEM & MINERAL SHOW 2018
JANUARY 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2018
Each year the East Texas Gem & Mineral Society hosts its Annual Gem Mineral Show. Our show consists of eleven +/- vendors selling a variety of earth science related items such as rough rock, polished stones, mineral specimens, fossils, geodes, jewelry, gemstones, amber and equipment along with lapidary demonstrations.
School day is on Friday and it is specifically designed to give science teachers and students the opportunity to see genuine earth science items only pictured in textbooks and to learn firsthand some of the processes involved in man’s interaction with stone. We feel that you will find this to be an excellent opportunity for you to reinforce learning for your students when you use a questionnaire provided by ETGMS or one you prepare. While the show is educational in itself, the visit is a unique and fun experience for people of all ages and interests.
There are display cases with samples of artisan jewelry, mineral and fossil collections and lapidary items of interest. The world-renowned Rock Food Table will be on display with a banquet table of rocks and minerals that naturally resemble items of food. Several demonstrators will have learning stations set up to explain how to cut and shape stones, use lapidary equipment for jewelry making, how to facet gemstones and wire wrapping. There is also a fossil exhibit, a large hands-on exhibit of rock specimens, fluorescent mineral display, gold panning, making arrowheads, and a special lesson on amber.
