Throughout 2018, East Texas Moms Blog will be spotlighting one local nonprofit each month. Our goal is to bring awareness to our readers with nonprofit organizations that are making an impact in East Texas through their connection and work in the community.
We caught with Mrs. Becky Foote to visit about her involvement with Christian Women’s Job Corps. If you have spent any matter of time around Becky, you know how passionate she is about the women in our community. She took that passion and started the Lindale Site for CWJC. Here is her story.
In The Beginning
It is so hard to convey, in writing, my passion and my love for pouring into the women in our community. Two years ago, God laid it on my heart to help women in our community. As I looked around Lindale, and particularly my church, FUMC Lindale, I realized that we offer our community so many services…..David Powell Food Pantry, We Care Thrift Store, Bethesda Medical Clinic, WICC, Samaritan Counseling, and even ESL, just to name a few. But what were offering people who needed to find employment? Through much prayer, we finally connected with Christian Women’s Job Corps Tyler and decided to begin a site in Lindale.
What is Christian Women’s Job Corps of Lindale?
Our mission is to equip women with job skills and life skills in a Christ-centered environment. Our classes include Bible study, computer training, job skills training, resume writing assistance, job search assistance, employer roundtable discussion, dressing professionally, social media dos and don’ts, mock interviews, budgeting, legal assistance and other special topics as requested. Our participants submit an
application along with a non-refundable registration fee of $30. We have one paid staff person and two volunteer staff persons. All of our teachers and assistants are volunteers.
Our most important objective outside of equipping them for employment is to nurture and build their relationships with Christ!!! This IS the most important aspect of our classes. We do this through ongoing Bible study and providing each student with a mentor (Heart Friend). Our goal is to help our students connect with strong Christian women in our community who will walk along side them during the 12 week session and beyond. We want to plug them into an ongoing women’s Bible study group and, hopefully, help them find a church home. We also want them to be able to come back for further training and education as needed.
We are also currently working with the Lillie Russell Memorial Library in Lindale and the Literacy Council to provide GED classes to those in our community. We are also working on building relationships with other organizations in our community such as Father Heart and Hope Haven. We want our community to work together to bring about change in peoples lives personally, professionally, and spiritually. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a woman who feels hopeless, blossom into the person God created her to be.
Our goal is to build relationships with women, employers, churches, organizations, and individuals in and around Lindale to better support those in our community. At the end of the day, everything is about building relationships with each other and, most importantly, Christ. We can give women all the tools and skills in the world, but if they don’t have a strong support system and a strong foundation in Christ, it can be very hard to make positive changes.
We are working FOR the women in our community who are looking for hope, confidence, and are looking to improve their circumstances and their lives. We want to foster relationships for these women with strong Christian women who are here to support, encourage, and walk along side them both during the 12 week program and beyond. Our services are created and structured for women in the Greater Lindale area.
How Can You Help
Volunteer opportunities are listed on our website. These include kitchen angels (providing a meal or two each semester for our students), computer technology instructors and/or assistants, help students write their resumes, provide job search help, volunteer for graduation, participate in employer roundtable discussion, participate in mock interviews, being a mentor. If you have a specific topic you would like to share with our ladies or a personal story to share, we would love to put you on the schedule. There are many other ways to get involved. We want our program to GROW and we want our community to share this incredible resource with those around them. Ultimately, we would like to be able to provide this training to at least 70 women a year.
